Same-sex commitment ceremonies performed in South Carolina have no legal

standing because of a 2006 amendment to the South Carolina state constitution. The

mission of the SC Pride Wedding Give-a-way is to raise awareness of the unequal legal

status of same-sex relationships in South Carolina while finding ways to celebrate the

commitment of two loving individuals. “While same-sex marriages may not be legally

recognized in South Carolina,” said Tamera Tedder, President of South Carolina Pride

Movement, “same-sex couples in our state still find ways to overcome inequalities of the

law to recognize their love and commitment to each other.”

Ryan Wilson, Past-President of SC Pride Movement, who helped to create the SC Pride

Wedding Give-a-way stated, “On a day like Valentine’s Day where we celebrate

relationships, I think this is a great reminder that there are so many different relationships

in this world and same-sex couples deserve to be recognized equally!"

For more info about the Charleston Chapel for Weddings, visit www.acharlestonwedding.com

or contact David Rister at (843) 763-3296. The Charleston Chapel generously donated to

the SC Pride Wedding Give-a-way as part of a sponsorship of SC Pride 2009 and the

contest was kicked-off at the annual festival in Finlay Park.
